Course Title: Enhancing Childrens Learning
Our children hold the keys to a future that we can only begin to imagine and yet we are their teachers. So, as we face into a growing number of social issues, how can we best equip our children and our young people to live full and satisfying lives in an uncertain and fast changing world? We need to explore new ways of learning, teaching and creating. ecl is an innovative approach for schools and families to meet this vital challenge. It is both an inquiry and a resource, inviting dedicated and progressive parents, teachers and leaders all over the world to rethink education from a more holistic perspective.
Current Situation
Speaking to teachers from a range of different schools, they point to a range of psychosocial issues which are major barriers to childrens learning and wellbeing including
Feelings of not belonging Psychological health issues such as ADD/ADHD Lacking respect for teachers and peers
Fear of incidents of conflict and violence
Prevalent drug and alcohol abuse
Such concerns often leave teachers in a difficult place, feeling overwhelmed with the out of control atmosphere in schools, and a sense of loss of their rightful position as guiding adults in the classroom. They would like Insight on the nature and causes of the dynamics governing the childrens behaviour
Tools to use in the classroom to create a stronger, more peaceful learning environment Support, on an on-going basis, to deal with difficult school environments and find creative ways to influence wider positive and sustainable change
Workshop Overview and Outcomes
This two-day workshop works with the principles of Whole Child: Whole System. These principles place our focus on the social context of schools as a way of transforming the relationships that are needed to support learning. Our aim is to understand, explore and develop ideas together for a creative and systemic practice that better serves the future needs of children and young people a practice that strengthens individuals and their emotional resilience, as well as strengthening communities through a deeper understanding of human systems (family, school, social groups).
By the end of the 2 day workshop participants will: Have a new perspective of people as social being and an understanding of the systemic influences and their effect on the behaviours of children, families and schools. Developed new skills, tools and exercises that they can use in their classrooms and other work environments Feel calmer and more supported as a professional working in education
