Course Title: Maya Foundation - Johannesburg
BACKGROUND
The course is designed to give students a working knowledge of Maya® Unlimited v. 2008. Set over three weeks, students cover most aspects of the software at a basic level, with a focus on theory as well as technique. Examples will cover foundation skills for modeling, animating and rendering. Whilst the course is designed to be as comprehensive as possible, Maya® is a large, complex, software application. Therefore, self-study during the course and further study after the course will be required.
LECTURER
Hercules Maré began his foray into Animation whist studying Industrial Design using early CAD 3D software. Due to the general lack of available tuition in 3D animation in South Africa he left for Belgium where he furthered his 3D Animation studies and became a certified Maya instructor. Upon returning to South Africa he accepted an offer to teach a number of subjects specializing in 3D Animation and Maya training. Since then he was instrumental in creating the first accredited 3D animation course as well as consulting on course development for a number of Private educational institutions. He has taught animation for eight years and he is currently involved in the production of various short films, music videos, etc., as animator, technical consultant, and various other roles. He is currently developing training videos and course literature for Autodesk - the creators of Maya - for online training, and is the technical director of CityVarsity Jo’burg and head of the Animation Department. He likes coffee, the Internet, and almost anything with buttons.
