Course Title:   START: Skills, tasks, Results Training - Durban

Your Hospitality Career STARTs here.

The Skills, Tasks, and Results Training Program has been developed with guidance from educators, workforce development experts, and representatives of the hotel industry. This American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute 6 month program gives students the real-world knowledge and skills needed for a long-term career in the hospitality industry. The course consists of 8 weeks academic training and 12 weeks practical work experience in a hotel.

S T A R T provides training for hospitality positions in the rooms and food and beverage divisions of a lodging operation, including front desk, reservations, housekeeping, bell services, restaurant service, banquet setup and service, and more. Guest service, professionalism and career exploration are other important components of this program. Students will also be exposed to culinary operations by attending a one week culinary workshop during the course of the program.

Learners who have a National Senior Certificate with less than a 50% average and who wish to embark on a career in hospitality are eligible to apply for the S T A R T programme. On successful completion of the S T A R T programme, students are then eligible to enrol for the Full Time Diploma courses or 3-year Traineeship courses as per The International Hotel School’s RPL policy.

Learners who do not have a National Senior Certificate and who wish to embark on a career in hospitality are eligible to apply for the S T A R T programme. On successful completion of the S T A R T programme, students are then only eligible to enrol for the Correspondence courses or our 2-year Traineeship courses.
