Why Surfing
Surfing is an exciting active sport reconnecting girls with the outdoor environment, allowing them to take up a new sport, meet like-minded people and gain a greater appreciation for the outdoors and the world around us.
Roxy Surf School is a unique girls only surf club!
Where do we surf?
We are based at the Roxy Club in Muizenberg. Muizenberg is a perfect all round spot, great for beginner girl surfers just starting out as well as the more intermediate and advanced girl surfers too. We also hold mobile surf lessons for the more intermediate and advanced girl surfers. These venues include Long Beach Kommetjie, Witsands, Scarborough, Big Bay, Milnerton, Innerkom etc.
Who can surf?
Surfing is for girls of any age that are interested in taking up a new active sport. We provide structured lessons for all levels of surfing, beginners, intermediate and advanced.
Instructors and equipment:
Our instructors are professionally trained staff ready to attend to all necessary needs in and out the water.
Our head trainers are equipped with a level two BSA surfing qualification approved by Surfing South Africa. They are also qualified lifeguards and trained in first aid.
The Roxy Club is one of the few Surf Schools for girls in and around South Africa approved by Surfing South Africa.
Surf instructor ratio (1:5) 1 instructor to 5 girls on average.
All equipment for the lessons (surfboard and wetsuit) are provided by the Roxy Surf Club.
Programme Structure:
As each girl is a unique individual their learning rate and technique will differ, which is why we developed a specialised surfing programme that not only helps them focus on their strengths but also facilitates growth and strengthens their weaker areas that are identified.
The girls go through a step-by-step 4 month surf programme (16 lessons in total - 1 lesson per week) allowing them to gain a full understanding of surfing and beach safety as well as gain confidence in themselves as individuals.
Times:
Monday - Friday:
We hold weekday afternoon group classes for people of all ages. Groups would consist of children surfing together from the same school. Time: 3:30pm - 5pm. These classes include mobile intermediate and advanced lessons, as well as Wp league training.
