Course Title: Reptile Identification Course and First Aid
Improve your identification skills and a better understanding of what makes these scaly friends so special! We also specialise in snake handling courses and first aid on a snake bite.
The aim of this course is to teach you how to safely remove them if need be. Southern Africa is blessed with a rich reptile fauna with a species count in our sub-region (151 snakes, 338 lizards, 27 tortoises and one crocodile). There are still more species being discovered and studied today. Reptiles have been around for a long time and sadly they have been neglected by most conservation plans and are generally ignored in conservation management in southern africa. We need to really start concentrating on protecting these fascinating creatures because we have seen a decline in numbers in certain species. Firstly we look at the importance of reptiles in the ecosystem.
As a guide it is very important to be able to identify reptiles correctly — To which family they belong, tooth structure, venom type if it is a venomous specie.
We do not encourage guides to pick up/handle reptiles but rather enrich their knowledge about them and to make the public more aware of their importance!
