Course Title:   Certificate in Home Distilling

The certificate in Home Distilling provides you with all the knowledge and experience to enjoy home distilling as a life long hobby in a responsible and legal manner.

Learn to manufacture brandy, whiskey, vodka, liqueurs and more than 100 different spirits, liqueurs and infusions.

Course objectives: To enable new home distillers to enter home distilling in a knowledgeable,  informed manner and respecting the law to responsibly enjoy the life-long art of distilling.
   
Course duration: 6 week certificate course with 3 hour experiential work sessions once a week on weekday evenings from 18h00-21h00

Location: In Centurion, Pretoria

WEEK 1:
 MODULE 1: Distilling overview and introduction

Types of liquors
History of distilling
Legalities - how to obtain your permit to own and operate your Distillique Compact Still legally in South Africa
Safety during distilling
Responsible drinking and health benefits
Potable distilling products
Myths about Distilling
The role of copper during distilling

WEEK 2:
 MODULE 2: Equipment and Instrumentation
Fermenting vessels
Still types
The Distillique Compact still
Distilling boilers and heating control
Instrumentation and correct use
Cautionary notes on equipment
Hygiene, sterilisation, cleaning and maintenance

WEEK 3:
 MODULE 3: Fermentation
Working with recipes
The Fermentation process

Notes Although this course is scheduled only to run in Centurion, we will provide the course in any location in South Africa for a minimum of 15 attendees. It is great fun and truly allows you to start a life long, highly rewarding and enjoyable hobby - for you and friends.
