Course Title: Teachers Assistant
Our Teacher’s Assistant workshop is aimed at teacher’s assistants or classroom assistants working in a pre primary school or play school setting.
Karin has been running these development progammes since October 2007. We believe that teacher’s assistants or support staff play a valuable role in the lives of our children. We teach them to understand how significant their role is – not only are they accountable for the well being of the child but they are also responsible for his and her growth and development.
Currently there are no short skill based workshops available for teacher’s assistants and yet often they are the eyes and ears of a teacher in an early childcare environment. Our aim is to improve our learners current edu-care knowledge so they too may feel inspired and motivated in their job role. The teacher’s assistant course gives these pre-primary school assistants a strong understanding of how important their role is in the class room and how their actions can make a difference in a young child’s life.
Our training empowers the wider community.
In addition to empowering the teachers assistants to look after the children at their place of work; they all take the knowledge back to their homes and share this with their friends and families, making their communities a better and safer place for their young children.
Our trainers are passionate about adult education and we bring both a teacher and parent perspective into the course content.
Why go on our Teacher’s Assistant course.
* Our workshops are aimed at teacher’s assistants starting a new job and who would like to undergo some form of induction training or for those who would like to refresh their current knowledge.
* Our teacher’s assistants course helps new teacher’s assistants and support staff to understand their role, feel confident in their work and be effective members of the school team.
* Longer-serving staff will also find it useful as a refresher to bring them up to date with policies and practice.
* We provide them with some common skills, knowledge and understanding to support the children’s learning through play and recreational activities.
Our 2 day Teachers Assistant workshop covers three modules:
Module 1 – The Child Friendly Environment includes health and safety procedures, hygiene and food, security and off-site responsibilities, school trips and school security procedures.
We teach and remind the teacher’s assistants the preventive measure they may need to take in order to provide a safe, fun environment for the child to learn in.
Module 2 – First Aid covers the techniques used to cope in an emergency situation including mouth to mouth breathing and CPR. We learn how to deal with cut, bruises and burns as well as how to deal with minor accidents that can occur in the playground and elsewhere on the school grounds.
We learn how to avoid the transmission of HIV/Aids. We also learn about general ailments and allergies common in young children and how to deal with any allergic reactions or intolerances.
Module 3 – Playtime highlights the importance of learning through play, why we play certain games and how it can improve their gross and fine motor skills. We offer additional games and activities appropriate for the childs sensory environment. We also review the developmental stages of a child between 3-6 years of age and provide examples and reasons why certain games work and why we use them.
We review the role of a teacher’s assistant :
What is required to support the teacher – handling routine classroom administrative duties, helping to manage pupil behavior around the school, playground, during lunch and aftercare.
What is required to support children – supervising small groups of children while they work on a task, helping individual children with their work, listening to them read and helping them develop their social skills.
