Course Title: Administration of Deceased Estates
The South African Law School’s course in the Administration of Deceased Estates is a short certificate course aimed at preparing Candidate Attorneys, Attorneys, Executors, Administrators and Trust Officers, Paralegals and Estates staff in the highly regulated field of Estate Planning and the Administration of Deceased Estates.

WILLS AND CODICILS
Preparation of wills
Formalities i.t.o. Wills Act
Usual clauses – appointment of executor, exclusion of joint estate of beneficiary, exclusion of guardians fund, dispense with furnishing security, creation of testamentary trust, revocation
Codicils
Signature of wills and codicils
Testate and intestate succession
Functions of the Master of the High Court in regard to deceased estates;
ADMINISTRATION OF DECEASED ESTATES
Interpretation of wills and codicils, massing, joint wills, repudiation and adiation
Reporting the estate
Appointment of Executor/Representative
Functions and Duties of Executor/Representative;
Advertising for debtors and creditors;
Collecting assets of the estate; carrying on of deceased’s business, interim maintenance of spouse and minor children; guardian’s fund;
Opening estate bank account;
Calculating accrual (if any)
Drafting the estate account (Liquidation and Distribution Account)
Claims in terms of Maintenance of Surviving Spouse Act;
Estate Duty return;
Advertise the account;
Dealing with objections;
Pay estate debts
Distributing assets, transfer of immovable property and vouchers;
Reconciliation account
Master's filing slip.
