To equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and create real-world images combined with other graphic communication codes for advertising, logo and promotional design and specialized aspects of printing and retail media. With this qualification you qualify to enroll for the Graphic Web Development Diploma, or 3D Design and Digital Animation qualifications.
e-Publication Graphics and Illustration (Freehand) (15 credits)
A full-featured drawing program from Macromedia. It combines a wide range of drawing tools with special effects. Working with vector graphics, allowing more flexibility when creating artwork to be resized or perform multiple edits.
e-Page Layout and Typography (QuarkXpress) (15 credits)
This desktop publishing software allows for the integration of text and images on the same page, easy manipulation of page elements, creation of artistic layouts and multi-page publications such as books and newsletters.
e-Image Manipulation (Adobe Photoshop) (15 credits)
Used for creating, manipulating and retouching or computer graphics and photographs.
e-Photo Editing (Corel PhotoPaint) (15 credits)
Used to upgrade the technical quality and manipulate visual images (e.g. paintings, photographs, bitmap images and realistic images) to a professional level.
Basic Photography (15 credits):
Using basic photography technologies to capture images for application in advertising and promotional designs.
Design Concepts with MS Word and MS Publisher (15 credits):
Delegating tasks effectively, apply time-management principles, provide out-source services to clients's, and apply effective management practices to streamline the running of an IT Department through effective project management.
Desktop Publishing Theory (10 credits):
In this module it is required of students to compile a portfolio of design and products to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and practical skills and therefore meeting industry standards for label and packaging design, layout and publication design, corporate identity as well as retail and exhibition design.
Pre Press (10 credits):
To understand how to produce good color output from graphic programs on both monitors and color printers. Despite what most people think, it is often difficult and many times impossible to reproduce all of the colors from a monitor image on a color printout. This statement also applies to scanning color images and presenting them on monitors.
Typography (15 credits):
Typography may be defined as the craft of rightly disposing printing material in accordance with specific purposes, controlling the type to aid the reader's comprehension of the text.
