WORKSHOPS & COURSES
We conduct various types of courses and workshops both at our studio in Swellendam and at other venues.
Our workshops and courses cover all aspects of the art of high temperature, reduction-fired pottery and we are able to tailor a workshop to any group’s particular interest or requirements.
The spacious and well-equipped workshop allows us to accommodate groups of up to eight people at a time.
There are five electric potter's wheels, an enormous slab-roller and ample table, shelf and working space.
Participants are requested to bring with them adequate protective working clothing, a notebook, their own tools and brushes where possible and a camera etc.
Some workshop options:
A one or two day introduction workshop which can be as structured or informal as the participants prefer. These shorter courses are provided with the holiday-maker or tourist in mind.
Weekend getaways, tailored for those who wish to escape the city for a weekend in the country, working with clay.
A five day structured course covering pre-arranged aspects of studio pottery where the participants may choose to spend the time being coached in specific areas e.g. throwing, hand-work, throwing large pieces, decoration, firing etc.
A two week structured course, at the end of which it is hoped that the participans will be able to take some of their finished work home with them.
The first week is spent covering various aspects of the making process under David's guidance and instruction.
Bisque firing will take place over the weekend and the glazing and decorating process begins on Monday under Felicity's guidance and instruction, with a reduction-firing (oil or gas fired kiln) scheduled for Wednesday.
It is expected that the kiln will be opened with the finished work by the end of the session on Friday.
