Music theory is the ability to write and understand musical concepts.  The purpose of music theory, in a balanced music programme, is to make a pupil music literate.

The student will be taught how to analyse music regarding key, chordal structure, interval relationships, etc. This knowledge aids the student in sight-reading, memorisation and performance.

Theory also includes keyboard harmony, ear training, dictation and creative work.

Thus, students will learn to creatively write down their own music.

Visualisation is very important as it creates security and exercises the memory. Ever heard of "hear" through his eyes and "see" through his ears? It simply means that when you hear a score, you should be able to visualise how it might look on the printed sheet, and when you see the printed sheet, you should be able to hear what it sounds like from looking at it.
