Course Title: Foreign Licence Validation
All overseas licences can be validated at our flight training centre in order to allow the holder of a foreign licence to act as pilot in command of a South African registered aircraft.
Private Pilot validation
The requirements are as follows:
The applicant must have:
1. A valid foreign licence
2. A valid foreign medical examination
3. Proof of pilot's flying experience (pilot's logbook)
4. Copy of applicant passport.
Validation procedure:
1. Air law course at the flying school (± 2 hours) or can be completed on a self study basis
2. Pass a written air law examination
3. Pass a practical general and navigation flight test on the type of aircraft on which the validation is received
4. Airspace and radio procedures differences course (± 2 to 3 hours)
5. Documentation to be submitted to the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
Duration of the course
Foreign Pilot licence validations takes approximately 1 to 2 days.
Privileges and limitations of validations
1. The holder of a foreign licence validation may act as pilot in command in a South African
registered aircraft in V.M.C by day only
2. Validation can only be done on an aircraft on which the applicant has had previous flying experience.
Commercial pilots validation requirements are as follows:
1. Airlaw and procedures examination to be completed at the S.A.C.A.A (civil aviation authority)
2. Pass a practical flight test with a Grade 1 Instructor (Designated Examiner) on a single or multi-engine aircraft as applicable
3. Fill in the necessary paper work and pay the prescribed fee
4. Submit documentation to the Civil Aviation Authority.
