Course Title: Fashion Design Course - Pretoria
Fashion is a complex fusion of developed design aesthetic and highly skilled practitioners, reflecting an intuitive understanding of cultural trends. Trends, by their very nature, are constantly changing and shifting emphasis and a designer must be able to understand, anticipate and reflect these fluctuations in response to both artistic and socio-economic forces. The philosophy underpinning this course is to contribute to the personal development of the learners by developing their innate creativity in order that they may gain both personal satisfaction and confidence, as well as fashion insight and business acumen.
Program curricula must remain responsive to the regional, national and global context, therefore it is crucial that the quality of learning keep pace with the fluctuations in the industry, and that critical and analytical thinking skills are developed to ensure advanced problem-solving and communication skills so the learner is able to deal with open-ended intellectual inquiry, technological developments, change and diversity. Competence in the areas of fashion trend analysis and design solutions is critical if South African fashion designers are to be current and competitive within a worldwide economy.
The purpose of this 3 (three) year (360 credit) learning program is to enable South African fashion designers to be competitive in a global economy by preparing learners for a creative as well as business role, equipping them with a sound basis for progression into their first post in the industry or postgraduate study. All graduates must have reached a high level of practical and theoretical ability at NQF level 6 and will be assisted to prepare a portfolio that not only reflects his/her personal ambitions and career objectives, but that also displays competence in all core skills areas and shows the ability to use a variety of research and presentation techniques in his/her approach to a design solution.
