Course Title: Interior Design Course- Pretoria
The limits of Interior Design or Interior Architecture are difficult to define, due to the challenges of this expanding discipline. Interior Design encompasses architecture, space solutions and product design. It is an extension of the exterior architecture to the interior of the structure in terms of detail, scale/proportion, spatial sequence and other such architectural components, and are often, applied to the inside of a building in the same way as design elements are carried to the exterior, distinguishing a “holistic creation.”
The aim of the course is to enable the learner to understand the purpose of design and to organize its parts into a coherent whole in order to achieve certain goals and to enable South African designers to be competitive in a global economy and equipping them with a sound basis for progression into the industry. The relationships among these elements i.e. ergonomics, anthropometrics, cultural influences, social context, location etc., ultimately determines the visual quality and functionality of any interior space. With the emphasis on the design process (Research, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation) the execution must express the learners’ creative ability and ensure problem solving that is directly connected to human and environmental needs.
All graduates of this three year (360 credit) qualification must have reached a high level of practical and theoretical ability at NQF level 6/7 and will be assisted to prepare a portfolio suitable for presentation to the industry that not only reflects his/her personal ambitions and career objectives, but that also displays competence in all core skills areas and shows the ability to use a variety of research and presentation techniques in his/her approach to a design solution.
