The GRAPHIC DESIGN Industry represents the largest industry within the applied visual arts, offering a wide range of excellent career prospects to those people with the right industry based competencies.
THE DESIGN SCHOOL SOUTHERN AFRICA’s, B.A DEGREE IN GRAPHIC DESIGN, is fully accredited by the COUNCIL OF HIGHER EDUCATION and registered with the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
This intensive three-year (360 Credit) course is designed to give learners a platform from which to enter this dynamic and expanding field. Strong emphasis is placed on the fundamental principles of design, so as to embrace all aspects of the “creative process” and the role of the designer. Candidates will learn to apply the correct research methodology, industry based technology, materials and competencies to the range of processes, utilizing both digital media and “traditional” techniques.
Whilst each subject seeks to help the learner identify his or her strengths, the syllabus is designed to create a diagnostic arena within which the learner’s creative potential, business and entrepreneurial skills can flourish. Integration and experimentation across subject areas is actively encouraged. The aim of this program is to develop flexible individuals capable of dealing with the international design paradigm.
All graduates must have reached a high level of practical and theoretical ability at NQF level 6 and will be assisted prepare a portfolio that not only reflects his/her personal ambitions and career objectives, but that also displays competence in all core skills areas and shows the ability to use a variety of research and presentation techniques in his/her approach to a design solution.
