Course Title:   B/W Photography

NINE 3-hour sessions, completed over NINE weeks

This practical wet-darkroom course explores traditional black and white film photography. Students will learn how to process their film, make contact sheets and print their own pictures. Special attention is paid to composition and the development of your creative vision.

Although you will need a film SLR camera to do this course, it is suited to students who are familiar with the technical aspects of either film or digital SLR cameras. Second-hand film cameras are readily available at very affordable prices for students who have a digital photography background and wish to experiment with the creative aspects of traditional darkroom processing.

Classes

The course is presented in weekly sessions of 3 hours each, over a period of 9 weeks. Practical darkroom work will be combined with theory lectures, slide shows and demonstrations. Students are expected to complete a number of practical assignments in their own time.

Needs

To do this course you need a film SLR camera, the ability to use it and an interest in black and white photography.
