Course Title: Design Foundation
who should take this course?
Modern design finds its origins in art. (Good designers use a combination of hand illustration, computer generated images and creative thinking)
Because of this, a knowledge of, and an ability in art are a prerequisite for enrolling for design at most reputable institutions. Grade 12 art is one of the entry requirements at Inscape. Unfortunately, not all applicants have had the opportunity to receive art education at school, and not all Grade 12 art qualifications are suitable as an entry to design.
Students who do not have grade 12 art or a suitable art qualification can take the Inscape Design Foundation course as a bridging year to their first year of design.
what will i learn?
The objective of this course is to bring students up to par with those who have grade 12 art.
The course takes a hands-on approach to observation, critical analysis, visual communication, aesthetics, knowledge and use of media, elements and principles of art, art making techniques, life drawing, 2- and 3-dimensional work, presentation, creative problem solving, and critical discussion of art, artists and art movements.
Exposure to the real world of design practice helps students make an informed decision when choosing their career direction.
Life skills - including study methods, time management, inter-personal skills, stress management - also form an important part of the course.
The practical workshop approach to the course means that students develop a personal relationship with art through experimentation, discovery and practice.
where do I go from here?
On completion of the Design Foundation course you will be able to further your studies in a design career of your choice i.e. Interior Design or Graphic Design.
