Course Title: Field Guide - Correspondence Course
Bushveld Training Adventures invites all prospective field guides, nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts to a life changing training and learning experience about wildlife and the natural environment. Whether you are a nature enthusiast or planning to pursue a career in guiding and conservation you will receive the most professional and most enjoyable nature training experience.
Course Objectives
The Correspondence Nature / Environmentalist Course is aimed at providing the necessary knowledge and skills to those who are interested in pursuing a career in guiding and/or conservation or would like to broaden their knowledge about the natural environment.
It will provide the nature lover, game farm or nature reserve owner or operator, as well as the general environmentalist with the knowledge and skills to better understand nature and the processes that govern it.
Most important is to instill in people an interest in and love for nature and the many aspects that constitute the natural environment.
Course structure
The Field Guide and Environmentalist Correspondence Course is a one year, part-time course that combines theory followed by written tests and/or assignments for those who want to acquire a nationally recognised certificate at the end of the year with practical field work which can/should be attended as three separate practical modules spread through the year. (Details will be provided).
The course comprises different modules, each with a number of subjects (carefully) selected to provide the nature enthusiast with a comprehensive insight into the natural environment, while meeting the stringent requirements of the field guiding fraternity.You will learn about Ecology, Soil, Astronomy,Weather, Classification,Wild Flowers,Trees, Grasses,Arthropods (Insects, Arachnids and their relatives), Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals, Signs and Sounds of the Wilderness and a range of other fascinating topics.
(Basic Rifle Training & First Aid Training are optional extras)
Each course is presented by experienced and well-qualified trainers.
Course Recognition and Accreditation
The course presents a nationally recognised qualification that meets the Level III content requirements of the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA).The principal trainer is an accredited trainer and assessor with FGASA,THETA and ETDP. Learners will therefore qualify for a NQF certificate (National Qualification Framework - NQF 2/4) on completion of the course.
Who can do the course?
Anybody with an open mind, a love for nature and who can read and write.
We cater for people over the age of 18 with a reasonable level of fitness and some outdoor experience.
Things you will do
Receive course material via the internet for self-study purposes.
Do projects within given deadlines based on the course material received as well as own research and in some cases write tests to underline the learning experience.
Go on 2 field trips during the year where the theory is augmented with practical experience.
Meet people with the same interests and make new friends.
