Course Title: Private Pilot: Helicopter
The minimum age that you can be awarded the PPL is 17 years although you can fly with an instructor(dual) from any teen age.To obtain a SPL (Student pilot license) you will need to have a medical certificate, passed Airlaw and R22 Technical exams / quizzes.
To apply for the PPL(H) you will need to have a minimum of 50 hours flight time. Of this 50 hours, you need to have logged a minimum of 15 hours solo flight time. The 15 hours solo time must include a minimum of 3 hours solo cross-country flight time and you must have completed 1 cross-country flight of 100nm (185km) during which two landings are made at two different aerodromes from the aerodrome of departure. In practice you may find that you will take more than 50 hours to achieve your license as this is the minimum amount of time needed to complete the syllubus.
You will also need to pass some ground school exams as follows:
* Navigation
* Meteorology
* Radio Telephony Communications
* Principles of Flight (Helicopter)
* Helicopter Technical and General
* Air Navigation Regulations (Airlaw)
After passing the ground exams and completing the flight training syllubus you will undertake a final skills test with another instructor to test your piloting ability. Once you have passed you skills test, your flying school will send your application to the CAA for processing together with a fee.
