Course Title: Diploma in Wine Studies
A magnificent way to realize the world through a glass of wine! The courses comprises 4 modules, which can be completed over a 2 - 4 year period. The course covers the wine regions of Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, with relevant wine tastings at each lecture.

Successful completion of the Certificate Wine Course is pre-requisite to register for the course.
The Diploma course covers the wine regions of Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand.
The course comprises 4 modules, starting with Module 1, after which you can do the other modules in any order, over a 2 to 4 year period.
Module 1 : WORLD TRENDS AND INFLUENCES IN THE WINE INDUSTRY.
Module 2 : THE WINES OF FRANCE.
Module 3 : WINES OF THE OLD WORLD (excluding France).
Module 4 : WINES OF THE NEW WORLD.
The Diploma course involves a large amount of self-study. Each module requires that 3 course assignments be submitted, and concludes with a written theory examination. Once the 4 modules have been completed successfully, a candidate qualifies to sit for the Diploma Tasting examination, which will include both local (South African) and imported wines.
The modules starting in August 2006, Module 1 (Global Wine Production) and Module 3 (Rest of Europe), each comprises 7 x 3 hour lectures (1 ½ hr lecture & 1 ½ hr tutored tasting), followed by a written 3 hour theory examination.
Should students not wish to register for the full 4 module course, they may register for 1 module only. However to achieve the Diploma certificate all 4 modules and the tasting examination need to be completed and passed within a 4 year period.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Three compulsory assignments per module must be completed before admission to each Module theory exam.
EXAMINATIONS
Three hour theory examination per module - Upon completion of all four modules a candidate will qualify to sit the Tasting examination (local and imported wines)
Note - A pass in each examination is required to complete the course. The pass mark for each paper is 55%, however a minimum of 60% per paper is required for those students wishing to register for The Cape Wine Masters programme.
