Our course notes are available in English and Afrikaans and cover the FGASA syllabus up to level 3.

Programme

The Correspondence Course is a distance learning programme that can be done purely for your own personal interest or as a means of obtaining a FGASA level 1 field guide (nature) qualification.
Course Objectives

The goal of the Nature Enthusiast Correspondence Course is to equip the person doing the course with a balanced set of practical skills and theoretical knowledge of the southern African bushveld. The person who successfully completes both the theory and practical parts of the course will acquire a recognised qualification, as well as the experience and confidence required of professional nature guides to conduct walking trails, game drives and other interpretive activities in National Parks, Nature Reserves, and Wilderness areas.

For those people who may not wish to use their knowledge in this way, the course offers a valuable and personally enriching experience, giving the participant a well-informed understanding of the ecology, flora and fauna of the southern African savanna biome.

Course Outline

• Start the theory part right away, from the comfort of your own home
• Study twenty fascinating topics, including Plant Studies, Animal Studies, Earth Sciences, Astronomy, Veld management and much, much more!
• Participate in an optional full time two week practical, run once a year
• Interesting projects to undertake
