FTI was established in 1989 to offer affordable practical, professional training of the highest quality to the IT industry. It was born out of the joint vision of 5 experienced lecturers from the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, who perceived a gap between the short course training offered by many private training companies, and the longer 3 and 4 year degree career-oriented programmes offered by universities.
Industry was crying out at the time for challenging, high quality courses that would help to train IT professionals in the broad range of skills needed to tackle two very difficult jobs: that of IT project manager, and systems analyst. Our Diploma in Systems Analysis, and our Diploma in IT Project Management, originally developed a decade ago and much refined since then, became the benchmark for training in these two disciplines in the Western Cape.
Operating from its Head Office in Kenilworth, Cape Town, Faculty Training Institute has begun expanding its successful product offerings from the initial 2 Diploma courses into a wide and growing range of courses that serve the professional career develeopment needs of a much wider comunity than IT. Our corporate client base number base include more that 100 of South Africa's top companies.
Many successful graduates
In the last decade, many hundreds of IT professionals successfully graduated from these Diploma courses.
By 2005, we had graduated more than 4000 people on our Diplomas, many of whom now hold key positions. .
Many of our delegates have returned to complete their second, third and even fourth Diplomas course with FTI. Several of our top graduates have gone on to do MBA and other post-graduate programmes at university. FTI maintains contact with its graduates and it is a source of growing pride to Faculty Training to observe the successful career paths of so many of its graduates in corporate South Africa.
Our innovative and fresh approach to training took some time to get acceptance in the marketplace, many companies in the Western Cape now to use FTI as their sole source of career-development training for business analysis, systems analysis and project management skills.
To be effective, training must be relevant to a delegate's own experiences in the work place, and the training must add value to the work effort of the individual for a long period after the course is finished.
Career-oriented training requires a very different approach to skills-related training. A two- or three-day course designed to transfer a language or product skill is appropriate, but project management skills and systems analysis skills are best transferred over an extended period of time.
Based on the years of experience of its lecturers, Faculty Training is able to offer the best in creative training techniques for the knowledge professional.
