Annual National Assessment highlights need for intervention

The Annual National Assessment (ANA) results were unveiled by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga in Pretoria. The assessment incorporates numeracy and literacy tests undertaken by six million so-called foundation phase (Grades 1 to 3) and intermediate phase (Grades 4 to 6) pupils enrolled in government schools.

Transnet to create more than 5 000 job opportunities

State owned freight group Transnet projects that it is going to generate in excess of 5 000 jobs over the next five years. At this time, the company employs 55 519 people, and forecasts the fact that the number will expand to 61 520 by 2016.

Growing signs of recovery with new jobs and higher wages

The total number of people employed in the formal non-agricultural sector increased by 47 000 (0.6 percent) between the December 2010 and March 2011 quarters based on recent data from Statistics South Africa.
